We’re all suckers for ‘shiny object syndrome’ every now and again. In fact, you may well be suffering from it right not, and not even realise. For example, do you want a new website in 2021, but you’re not really sure why? Shiny object alert!
Jill Willis, Attract & Engage Managing Partner says:
If you just want a new website because you’re tired of the way your existing site looks, then you’re coming at things all wrong and are in the grip of ‘shiny object syndrome’!
I’ve lost count of the number of times business owners have contacted me because they ‘absolutely must have a new website in 2021.The existing site is so out of date. It is a top priority’. Now, if A&E were a web development agency, we’d say yes, of course, how many pages? But we’re not. We are a growth marketing agency. Sure, we can project manage and write outstanding websites, but we won’t do that if it’s not the best choice for our client. And, the truth is, a new website is not always the best decision.
What business owners ultimately want to achieve is: leads, sales, to grow their business. So, in the style of a good old-fashioned party pooper, we suggest they put the brakes on the web build, move away from the shiny object, and first start by finding a marketing solution to their growth challenge.
So, what can we do to inject a healthy dose of ‘sensible’ back into marketing?
Number one is to take stock on where your clients/customers are falling through the cracks, and create a plan of action to stop them.
It can be as simple as a one-pager marketing plan, designed to bring clarity and focus, and hone in on THE best performance tactics to boost sales and grow your business.
If you don’t have the luxury of an in-house team to get to grips with marketing, you do have options. You could always invite some experts to help you. Ideally a team of people who have masses of experience working with businesses in the midst of a growth challenge.
Now, where can I find one of those?
