It’s not very often you can say that the work you’ve done has helped save the trees. But in this instance it’s not an exaggeration.
Ashwells Reclaimed Timber is a tropical reclamation specialist based in Bulphan, Essex. They salvage and rescue beautiful, durable tropical timber. Preventing it from going to landfill and stopping more tropical trees from being cut down unnecessarily.
Reclaimed tropical timber from Ashwells timber mill is regularly commissioned by award winning landscape designers, architects and civil engineers. With timber included in major projects across the UK, from the Chelsea Flower Show, and Hampton Court, to The Eden Project and London Zoo. But in the past, these high profile collaborations had not been showcased to maximum effect.
When Ashwells timber was chosen to feature in two RHS Chelsea gardens Janine and Deb, Ashwells owners, decided to ask us to step in to help.
We recommended a comprehensive public relations project, spanning two weeks following the RHS Chelsea show. Leading on media relations, and also including social media management, web content and email marketing. The project would use the high profile gardens as a way to legitimise Ashwells position as the UK’s leading reclaimed tropical timber supplier and enable the firm to become a respected voice on sustainable landscape design.
It was a great project to work on, not least because of the strong sustainability message and powerful supporting photography.

I’m proud of this public relations campaign because it delivered exactly what Ashwells asked for: a strong sustainability story, using RHS Chelsea to help keep the timber mill front of mind amongst landscape architects. This initial project is just the start, with plans now in development for regular case study focused PR and social media engagement designed to educate and inform landscape architects across the UK.
